just to say hello, i'm new to Antix and mepis just discovering it

first try : via unetbootinn on a stick : ok but no
possibility to choose langage in the menu (for me : french)

second try : installed via antix2usb from the unetbootin live antix on a second stick :
installed ok (i choosed a 2OOO M root partition to get space for updates and the
reminder of free space of a 16 G key for home persistent storage is this correct ?)
then shut down, took firt key off, plugged second"new" key on, reboot

system boots up from key up to the grub menu, i choosed langage but after the kernel
is started i have this message : trying to boot from iso:antiX-M11-686.iso
displayed on the whole screen and after a while : screen is blanked
and nothing happens, have to do a hard reboot...

here is the content of menu.lst on the new key :
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
default 0
timeout 10
color cyan/blue white/blue
foreground ffffff
background 003f7d
gfxmenu /boot/grub/message

## ISO boot
title antiX-M11-686 (LiveUSB)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz nosplash quiet noxorg nomodeset fromhd=UUID=4b4169ed-9367-4d53-b02e-7e2401f49147 fromiso=antiX-M11-686.iso vga=791 rootfs=UUID=df5d20a6-3c88-4135-b069-7f8eb96f3abb homefs=UUID=df5d20a6-3c88-4135-b069-7f8eb96f3abb
initrd /boot/initrd.gz

title antiX-memtest (test system memory)
kernel /boot/memtest
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i see rootfs and homefs are the same is it normal ?

the UUID=4b4... is sdc1
the UUID=df5... is sdc2

(sdc=newkey)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
pc is x300 Dell laptop with 618Mo ram, proc is pentium M / 1200mhz

i'd like to be able to use the antix2usb feature.. i've followed the instructions...

sorry if this message do not entirely fits here, kindly requesting for your advice !

Bonjour

Try rootdelay=20 at boot menu

Code: Select all

# dd if=/home/yves/Downloads/antiX-M11-686.iso of=/dev/sdX
1392640+0 enregistrements lus

hello ! salut Lagopus !

well i've tried the bootdelay=20 option . The boot started but i finally ended with a
kernel panic... see

for illustration

in both cases (with or without delay) i have the grub screen followed by lines of iso search
(see

Lagopus do you know how to copy the iso content (after mounting in a loop) for a regular live use with grub ?

thanks !!

See if you can boot without persistence.
At grub menu, using the keyboard remove both the rootfs=xxxx and homefs=xxx entries. Also add rootdelay=20

hello anticapitalista (*estoy listo*)

i've tried that with no success, well i start to doubt on the key
(brand new 16G hp) and/or on the iso... [edit : iso checked OK]

i've tried on three machines : dell x300 laptop, dell optiplex gx260
and a hand made based on a amd xp2800 barton : same result of a kernel
panic, with or without rootdelay, with or without persistance

ok machines are a bit old but not the oldest... ?!

i'm trying to find out more and will give here the feedback if any !

talk to you later,

trying another way to use usb key :

formated may key with gparted from a debian-derivated called bodhilinux
1st partition ext2 2Go boot flag called"groot"
2nd partition ext2 12 Go called"gstok"
3rd partition fat32 with the rest of space

mounted groot in /media/groot

in a console as root :

#mount -o loop antiX-M11-686.iso myhome/looping
#cp -r myhome/looping/* /media/groot

#cd /media/groot
#grub-install [--root-directory=/media/groot/ see note] /dev/sdb
Installation finished. No error reported

then i reboot : no grub menu only get :

"GNU GRUB version 1-98-1ubuntu10

minimal bashlike.......

grub>

note :
i keep trying ... what do i miss ? the bootloader do not find grub although i've
used the --root-directory option (if i do not use this option nothing happens at all
i get an error and boot is resumed on the hdd) : any suggestion please ?

All I can say

antix-11-antix2usb-persistent-t3130.html

This even boots on old Laptops with USB 1.1 ports with no usb boot option in bios but works when I use my Plop Boot Manager Floppy to give it some help. Bohdi is cool with E17 an all, but I don't run it. I try and stay away from grub 2 also.

this is what i did from begining and this is the trouble...

i've tried as suggested (anticapitalista) to use antix2usb with 8.5

no success, see screenshot on link :

It look like the usb hasn't been detected before the live part starts. Try again adding rootdelay=20 (or higher)

hey anticapitalista,

i just tried that and it booted although very very slowly (compared to unetbootin)

now i will go ahead and trying to compare between M11 prepared key and M8.5

i still wonder why i can't install by hand (copying files from the loop mounted iso )

thanks anyways for all your efforts i will give more feedback if thins get better

hello to all

i'm finaly back to unetbootin/ext2

4 G key formated as 1,7G ext2 fos system (sdb1) and 2,OG ext2 for storage (sdb2)

installed antix M11 via unetbootin on sdb1 from a debian/sid (aptosid) box (i have the last
extlinux package installed) with 1000Mo space for persistance

edited the extlinux.conf to add lang=fr in the"default" line

rebooted
this way persistance do not works : so i re-edited the extlinux.conf (from the debian box)
on the key and modifies the default as :

code :

label unetbootindefault
menu label Default
kernel /ubnkern
append initrd=/ubninit quiet lang=fr nosplash noxorg nouveau.modeset=0 rootfs=UUID=ez77c196-158c-449b-5949-9cc3c2fc3148

removed the"persistent" from unetbootin and replaced by rootfs=uuidxxxx, where the uuid is the one of
the 2G storage partition of the key (get that with ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid)

this sets up persistance, ok. Note the first partition could have been 1000Mo smaller as all modification will go to second partition now

so now i have a functionnal live antix on a stick, with french preselectes and persistance !

boot is fast, closing session a little slow (when saving data), do not remove the key before shutdown
completes

thanks to all hope to see you later
