Here's the issue: When copying from one app to another (say, Abiword document to a Sylpheed message), you can only paste as long as the"donor" app (Abiword) is still running. If you close Abiword, you lose the text residing in whatever clipboard operates in antiX.
I'm trying to find a better way to hold on to clipboard text. I've tried several clipboard apps from the repos, but all exhibit this same behavior. The exception, of course, is Klipper--which minimizes to the system tray and keeps copied text very nicely regardless of how the other apps are opened/closed.
What I want to do is to find a non-KDE way of handling this. I'm wondering whether anyone knows of a workaround in the current antiX or of some other non-KDE app that does the same thing. I'll still be looking into this...
Meanwhile, the only"tip" I'm offering for those who want a more permanent clipboard is: use Klipper.

Try parcellite.
Or maybe clipit (now in wheezy testing-Mar/2011).
Or maybe xfce4-clipman, 'tho this one is big.
For the gnome panel -- glipper.
Counterpart to -- klipper.

For linux virtual consoles:
gpm to copy-paste onto eg nano.
Great for documenting those cryptic console messages.
Tada, the text file is your clipboard.
Oh, yeah. Works best (for me) to open/use two consoles for this trick.
