My wife gave me an old IBM Thinkpad 600X for my birthday, and I immediately installed Anti
X 8.0. I was very excited about the new design, which makes AntiX much easier to use. However, I noticed that the sound didn't work. Then when I put in my Gateway Solo 9150
D-Link Gold Series WNA-2330 wireless card, which I specifically bought because it had worked with early versions of AntiX, the software didn't recognize it. I have installed a very early version of AntiX so that I can surf the Internet and listen to music files, and I'll be trying 7.2 of AntiX (7.5 didn't work either.) Is AntiX backing away from its support for old hardware? Or is this a Mepis thing?

Sorry to hear that.
Which version of antiX works ok?
The latest version antiX-M8 might get sound and wireless working with a bit of work.
There are 3 wireless tools.
Mnetwork, ceni and wicd (as well as rutilt and wpa-gui). One of them should get the card working.

I'm having problems getting sound also. I ran the CC sound config, alsamixer and after all that mplayer plays but no sound comes out. I've checked all the volume settings and they are maxed out. I had sound working fine in pre-final, so I don't know what the difference is. The soundcard is recognized.
thanks.

As an update, I thought alsaconfig was running fine, but it was not (just scrolling by really fast). I get the following message when I run it:
Loading driver...
Setting default volumes...
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such file or directory
===============================================================================
Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.
Have a lot of fun!
Any help on how to fix this will be appreciated.
thanks.

Can you pull up aumix via a terminal to set levels?

Thanks, AntiCapitalista. I think Intifada looks great; I'll reinstall it and try to get the card running.
I am posting with what I think is the first version of AntiX. I can't find where a version number is identified, but the help document that automatically pops up describes it as an alpha release.

pedro there is a change in /etc/modprobe.d/snd-hda-intel file
This is the new:
This was the old
This is the new:
Code: Select all
# some chips require that the model be set manually
# for example asus g71 series may need model=g71v
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
# this option is disabled by default per advice from community member Jerry Bond
#options snd-hda-intel position_fix=2
Code: Select all
# some chips require that the model be set manually
# for example asus g71 series may need model=g71v
options snd-hda-intel position_fix=2

Hi Anti:
I had noticed the change and I had removed the # from that second line, but that did not work.
Would displaying the lines in the original order (in other words as was done in the previous version) make a difference? I could try that change tonight.
thanks
Pedro

A new MEPIS kernel is now available in the repos. 2.6.27-18. Maybe upgrading this will fix the sound issue.

Just a side note regarding sound...with 7.5 I would lose my sound about every 10th boot or so. Alsa always restored things but it was an annoying little blip. With 8 rc2 that I'm currently running I have not had any problems.

Hello:
I solved my problem, although the solution seems odd to me. In alsamixer, i noticed that if I muted IEC958 then sound would work. In Multimedia->Mixer the same effect is accomplished by turning Digital1 to 0.
I have no idea why this worked, but I saw a thread about it in Ubuntu so I decided to try it.
