I have an asus eeepc 701sd.
the SSD went out a while back and have been running lubuntu on it through an 8gb SD card.
the only thing i really use this for is browsing the web and watching youtube so I decided to find a lighter weight distro that would play youtube videos smoother.
I booted a liveUSB made w/ unetbootin and installed to the flash drive... however.. i cant boot up.
first I get an error:
root (hd1, 0)
error 21: selected disk does not exist
then i read a hint somewhere stating to edit grub: root (hd0, 0)... then i get this error:
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
(initramfs)
and thats it... it goes nowhere... please help? been on google all morning, this is my last resort before i look elsewhere

Now that I have thought a bit. Did you make the usb with unetbootin and also had lubuntu usb inserted to make the unetbootin AntiX. Maybe there is confusion for syslinux bootloader that unetbootin uses because 2 pendrives are inserted.
I would open gparted in lubuntu and make sure I had the right /dev/sdX . Another thing. Confusion can be caused because you have 2 usb sticks during antiX unetbootin install (Lubuntu and blank pendrive). Then when you boot up antiX. Only one pendrive is being used so drive letter confusion can be had there also. Hope I am making sense. I ran into this when I made my AntiX external 8.2 full install to SD flash. I mention this in my blog during my how to.

no. i have only 1 flash drive. i format it and do a fresh unetbootin each time.
i think hte issue is that im installing to the SD and not the SSD (which i physically removed from the system)

The other one I did was

I would add a root delay of 10 to 20 seconds after changing to (hd0,0) to give time for the pendrive or sd flash to settle down. So type in
to end of kernel line after changing to (hd0,0). After AntiX loads up. Edit /boot/grub/menu.lst for (hd0,0) and rootdelay.
