Hello,
I have a problem since yesterdays"apt-get upgrade".
If I now boot antix15 and try to login as my normal user on the login-/display-manager I end up with a black screen.
If I try to login on the command line, I got the error message"unable to cd to /home/USERNAME" with USERNAME as my normal login.
(the following was originally stated, but ir turned out that it is not true: As root I can login from the display-manager without problems.)
If I login as root I can access my normal home-directory, but I cannot add users.
If I try the adduser command I got the error message"symlink: permission denierd"
During booting I also saw three"failed" messages, but I am not sure if they appeared after yesterdays upgrade or if the exist also before.
The failed are:
-) starting NFS common utilities: statd failed
-) startpar: services returned failure: nfc-common
-) starting clamav virus database updater: freshclamstart-stop-daemon:
unable to start /usr/bin/freshclam (permission denied)
Here the exact chronological sequence what I did yesterday:
1) booted antix (without any problems)
2)"apt-get upgrade", with nor problems afterwards
3) booted my parallel installed debian, mounted the antix partition and copied a file in a subdirectory of my antix home-folder
4) starting a reboot without unmounted my antix partition before.
5) the reboot booted antix, and then the problems started
Does anyone has an idea what could went wrong?
At the moment I believe the fact that I did not unmounted the antix partition before the reboot is not the root cause, I guess I did this also before (but I am nit sure).
Best,
madzeo

No, there are still 31GB free.

I can take a wild guess. Maybe you have your home directory as a
separate partition and that isn't getting mounted correctly. Please
check fstab for a /home entry. Please check"ls -al /home". Also,
please check"dmesg | less" for clues or"less /var/log/syslog". Please
report any errors due to mounting entries in fstab.

Thanks for your reply.
No, the home directory is not on an extra partition, it is on the same as the system.
In Syslog I could find only the following error messages (but I think that these are not the one your are looking for):

No also"mount -a" is not reporting neither errors nor warnings.
I have the suspicion that there is something wrong with permissions, but I could not find any abnormal when checking my home directory and /home with"ls -a".
By the way, in my first wrote, that I can login as root from the display manager, that is not true. As root I can only login from command line mode and can then starting the graphical mode with"startx".

When you were asked to change anything in / etc/slim.conf
Did you say yes to accept the package maintainers version or no to keep your original one.
If you said yes. All is not lost. Go into / etc and look for / etc/slim.conf.old
Rename it slim.conf .
Need to do this 1st though ------> Rename the other slim.conf in / etc folder,----> slim.conf.backup
Otherwise renaming old to slim.conf will complain of another file with the same name.
Reboot. Hopefully you can log back in. I've had this happen to me on AntiX 11.
I used midnight commander file manager logged in as root cli boot which I set up manually to do this.
But a AntiX live session will accomplish the same task pretty easily using rox file manager or spacefm file manager ran as root also.
As a final thing. Here is mine.
I hand edited line 97. Just insert your username for your name of home user name on the home folder if you wish to use it.
It comes off of AntiX 15 with my most recent dist-upgrade. Which boots up just fine.
You can also use it to compare with yours.

Hello rokytnji,
thanks for your respond.
When I was asked to keep local settings or to overwrite it with defaults I pressed Return to keep the local ones.
/ etc / slim.conf has not been changed since October last year.
I also tried to find out what could have been changed during the upgrade with"conf" in the filename, but I found nothing suspicious
Are there any configuration file I also should check?
(Sorry for the late response, I had problems with the" /" error of the forum)

/etc/X11/xorg.conf (hmmmm, /var/log/Xorg.0.log also?)
Was the video driver upgraded?
