Hello!

Just tried M8-public-test1 last week-end.
Running in liveUSB mode (fromiso), the USB mouse does not work (ICE-M reported that).
Fortunately the touchpad works!

So I clicked"Install antix", to install to the SD card plugged in my EeePc 701 (I succeeded with M8-test2)

When reached in grub installation, after the"Ok to install GRUB bootloader at /dev/sdb ?" dialog, the installation process hangs.

I had a glance at the minstall sources: MInstall::makeGrub calls:
"grub-install --no-floppy --root-directory=/mnt/mepis /dev/sdX"
which in turn calls grub-probe
the process grub-probe hangs and is not interruptible (it survives to kill -9)
The /mnt/mepis/boot/grub/device.map looks ok..

In fact I cannot execute any grub command (grub (with no args), grub --help both hang)
Using"strings /usr/sbin/grub", grub version seems to be 0.97

Any idea?

I will try a new fresh install as soon I get the time

Happy New Year to you all folks!

Did another test...
Now the install process freezes executing"/usr/bin/os-prober | grep chain" when trying to populate the menu.lst file.
I'll try to-morrow to restore an installation of antiX-M8-test2, just to see if I reproduce the problem

I am also working on a iso2usb script, adapted from sidux, removing sidux specific stuff...

I wonder if its not trying to look in the wrong place for the OS. Maybe it wants a hard drive and not a card? hmmmm?

I have this problem with public-test-1

I just did the same installation tonight with M8-test3 and everything went on nicely, exactly the same process: booting from a usb stick -booting fromiso-, installing to the SD card.
I will try to install again from an external CD drive, and check the ressources (ram usage?)

And I confirm the USB mouse is not working in live mode with public test1, it works with M8-test3.

had similar issues with pub test 1 - fine on laptop but main pc hung at 36% - solved it by using other cd drive (2 installed) - seem to remember mepis doing this to me in the 3.4.3 release
