Have been trying to play my DVD's but without any luck so far. So i opened up Synaptic => Settings => Repositories and enabled:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.deb-multimedia.org/"
linktext was:"http://www.deb-multimedia.org/"
====================================
wheezy. After clicking Ok, i did a search for and installed"libdvdcss2". I re-booted the laptop but i still can't play my DVD's. Help someone please.

I ended up making sure that libdvdcss2 was installed via Synaptic and then in Gnome MPlayer i clicked on Edit => Preferences and in the drop-down box oposite Video Output i selected xv.
Then from the top toolbar i clicked on MPlayer and in the box opposite MPlayer Default Optical Device i altered the default entry which was /dev/dvd to read /dev/sr0 and clicked OK.
Finally on the main menu i clicked on File => Disc and clicked on Open DVD with Menus.
I only managed to succeed because of your video in YouTube. So a very big thank you to dolphin_oracle.

Thanks for the details!
I'm glad you got it going! Maybe I need to watch my own videos, because I was having trouble with dvd's myself this morning on a secondary system. __{{emoticon}}__

I was about to post the very same thing, after two fracking days of trying to symlink the cdrom and dev/dvd as root, I found a post on this fourm that showed the real DVD fix. For future searchers: I installed libdvdcss2 from the videolan site, then chose the optical device from the drop down menu in gnome mplayer preferences and did the same in VLC, and all was good. My Dell D600 dvd was located at dev/sr0. You can find it by using SpaceFM and just note whatever it calls the optical drive, and make sure its in your dev folder.
Now I just need VLC to be able to"see" the contents of a thumb drive. SpaceFM has no such issue, but VLC thinks dev/sbd1 is an empty folder.
AntiX has breathed new life into an old Dell D600 with one gig o ram. I had LXLE on it, which is a nice enough distro, but believe it or not LXLE is too heavy for a 2004 Dell. There was literally a crap ton of Ubuntubloatware in LXLE that is totally superflous to my needs. And, it had unfixable, vicious video tearing in flash, mplayer and VLC. No such issues in antiX.
I liked ConnochaetOS for older computers when it was around, but antiX officially my new favorite distro. RunwithDolphins youtube videos are very helpful. Huzzah!
