I meant rename user dir of course.
No hassle at all to use xdm but its simpler than slim, login and thats it.
But then the functions slim is supposed to have do not always work, as you have seen..

I did install xdm. seems to work fine. Couldn't figure out how to switch wm at the login, maybe I can't?
Also tried gdm (at Anti's suggestion), and of course that looks nicer and it does have options, but it's gnome.

Anyway, it's good to have choices, so thanks for your recommendations.
