Hello:
I tried both mplayer and xine to open a commercial dvd on my system and was unable too. Mplayer kept looking in /dev/dvd. I changed the config file to look in /media/cdrom (which is where the dvd is) and then I got another message about not being able to open VMG info. libdvdcvss are installed. What am I doing wrong?
The system info is:

P.S. As a follow up, I also tried VLC and got the same error. it keeps looking for /dev/dvd but my dvd does not mount there. Any way to fix this particular issue?

Is this with any commercial dvd or just a certain one. I've been having trouble lately with certain newer"enchanced" dvd releases (inception being one) that will not play on my windows media center box. my antix box doesn't have a dvd drive, so I didn't try it there. I had the same issue with the windows version of vlc not opening the disk. My error messages are not the same as yours though.

Hello and thanks for the replies.
@Dolphin_oracle: I only tried 1 dvd (out of Redbox; $1/dvd) and returned it before fixing the problem. I don't think it was super-protected but I'll check others.
@Anti: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it next time I check out a DVD. Still the issue is why all the players are looking at /dev/dvd for the player.

Anti:
/dev/sr0 fixed the problem. So I changed the config files for mplayer and xine. Incidentally, I am very impressed with. .I had never tried it before since I always use mplayer, but xine seems to work better than mplayer (at least for window resizing).
Anyway, thanks for the fix.
