I tried the liveCD of AntiX 7.2 on my old white box, but I couldn't seem to change the screen resolution to 1024x768. Is this a graphics card issue? Thanks.

It could be.
At boot/menu hit F3 and choose the resolution from there (and maybe the vesa option)
