I don't know when this started. It may or may not be since the 7.5 upgrade. It's hard to tell because I don't use it much so here's what I got.
My laptop has a cd burner/dvd reader, when there is a disc present I can read it if it is a data disc and play it if it is a movie. No problem. The issue arises when I tried to burn an iso(sidux). Both Brasero and xfburn will start up and see a disc in the drive, ask to blank it and when I say yes will try to do so. Both apps then fail complaining the drive is unavailable/busy. It looks like it's being mount somewhere else and I don't know where.
Has anyone else seen this? Like I said, I don't know when it started because I rarely use it. I still have 7.2 on my desktop and don't have the issue there.
Can't burn a cd.

On my Dell 700m fully upgraded, Brasero just hangs after I drag in a file, even a small one, and says"some tasks not completed yet" when I try to burn--eventually have to kill it.
I saw this some time ago, I seem to remember, but like you I don't use it much so haven't paid it any attention.

I had a similar issue awhile ago in 7.5 with burning to dvds. Maybe a couple of weeks ago the problem was fixed with an update. So far, I haven't had any issues (and I did another update as recently as this past weekend). But then again, I'm using gnomebaker. (But I haven't tried iso's recently, just burning data dvds.)

I just installed Gnomebaker and it failed as well. I will have to see what's grabbing the disc.

Can you burn data files to cd/dvd?
I guess you are using sid repos and you are fully updated. I'm using brasero version Brasero 0.8.0-3
I just managed to burn a sidux.iso using brasero.

Yes, sid and fully updated via smxi. I have tried Brasero, Xfburn and Gnomebaker to burn data, music and iso's and all have failed. They claim the disc is busy. I just can't figure out why it's busy or what's using the disc.
It's strange because I can read cd/dvd's, play music and watch a movie without a problem. It just won't let me burn.

Update:
Via the terminal I unmounted the cd drive(umount /media/cdrom). Then using Brasero I successfully burned a sidux iso. I still have to figure out why the disc is being mounted in the first place, maybe something with the fstab?

Maybe if you use the mount hardware option in the control centre and then do not unmount them all including the cdrom/dvd folder, this causes the problem.
Just guessing.
Edit: I just noticed, via htop, that brasero is still running, even though I shut it down. maybe this is the source of the problem.
Check to see if it is still running and if it is killall -9 brasero will stop the daemon.

I don't think that's the problem as I never use the mount app. I let pcmanfm handle everything. When I insert a disc it will show up in the left pane. If I manually unmount it just the drive is listed and not the disc. When I remove the disc it is no longer in the left pane.
