Interesting when conversations of speed, size, memory footprint, and so on come up. Midori uses the Webkit rendering engine so it has some similarities to Chrome, but it's definitely smaller, but less functional, and I believe I remember anti mentioning that Midori brings in some dependencies (maybe from Gtk) that he was hoping not to include. Google Chrome has the reputation of being fast, but let me tell you, it's memory footprint, at least in my tests, is easily the LARGEST of any of the browsers we have been discussing. Firefox has been doing some work to pare itself down a little bit and also render more quickly, but Seamonkey, taken in balance, is reasonably close in speed, definitely less in size, and yet reasonably customizable. Iceape is the Debian implementation of Seamonkey. It has been massively improved since it lost primary support as the Mozilla cornerstone browser; it's actually better as a community supported effort than it ever was under more formal control of Mozilla, and the Iceape implementation shares most of those attributes too.

Now, I must point-out that I recently discovered that SeaMonkey/ IceApe does indeed have this feature!

Edit > Preferences > Appearance > Content > Zoom only text instead of full pages

Seems exactly the same as in Firefox (also adjusted by ctrl +/ ctrl -), just in a different place in the GUI.

That's good to know. I had a feeling that Seamonkey (Iceape) would have many of the same features found in Firefox (Iceweasel), but I can't say that I have explored every possible option, so thank you for pointing this out so that we can make note of this.

On my EEEPC Asus 900. It is faster than Iceape but just use it for browsing. I keep Iceape for chat and email and I pretty much weighed/bogged it down with addons which slowed it down a touch.

Edit: Iceape running under same gear/conditions only takes up 133MB of ram. (To be fair) with Addons.

With Iceape 2.0.13 in antiX M11.0 full, running live using IceWM, Roxterm, and htop, I am consuming 174 MB memory out of 2015 MB on my Gateway 2000 17" PA6A portable, and it's quite fast.

my favourite browser is midori because it is a sleek,clean and fast browser.

I either use IceWeasel or Epiphany-browser.

Epiphany-browser is much like antiX . . . very fast, lean and mean.

Jury is still out for me on that one. Flash and Passwords work. No java applet functions yet. Cpu spikes to 100% when clicking on a java enabled gif and such with it __{{emoticon}}__ . Just playing around though.

Oh Yeah, forgot to mention. Don't enable their adblocker in preferences. This site and others that depend on advertising won't load all the way if you enable it.

I use either iceweasel, konqueror with webkit instead of khtml, netsurf or sometimes uzbl.

I am messing around with Iron tonight, and it's up to release 12. Seems to be a fairly clean implementation of Chrome, minus the stuff that tends to concern some people. Couple it with a search engine like Duck Duck Go or ixQuick and it seems pretty reasonable.

I still use Seamonkey most of the time, including on antiX, and I generally run Seamonkey Nightly Builds, which track pretty closely with the Firefox Nightly Builds.

I could not install firefox I use iceweasel which is based on firefox. I would love to use Opera but again could not install it. Have tried Chromium but it's too slow and hangs too much.

Thanks for pointing out the tool to enable Opera in the repositories. Just to add to what Dave said, if you use Harold Hope's smxi tool, which does come with antiX, you can also tell smxi to go out and grab Opera; it will fix the very line that Dave mentions, refresh the repos, and install Opera.

As far as getting other versions of browsers, one thing I often do is grab the nightly builds of Firefox AND Seamonkey. Lately I have been using them more than the released versions of either, or their Icy-Debian rebadged versions, Iceweasel and Iceape. Nightly Builds are so much more current, and since they are reasonably stable (at least right now) I use them as often as I can. Both Firefox and Seamonkey are more efficient than ever, and I think they have caught, and possibly passed, Chrome and Chromium, both in smaller memory footprint and in several other metrics; they are certainly competitive.
