How did you put antiX on to the usb?

If doing so from windows, use Rufus.

Yes, I created the USB with Rufus under Windows.

USB boots ok on an HP Stream if I interrupt the boot to set USB as the boot device. HP Stream as similar problem of not finding linuxfs if I set BIOS to boot from USB and do not interrupt the boot.

Does failsafe option boot?

If not, at boot menu type (this delays the boot by 20 secs). You may need to increase the number since the usb is probably the old and very slow 1.1

try=20

I think on T23 you need to use acpi=off .

You might actually be better off using antiX on a cd.

I can confirm my T23 boots to desktop from a CD with no cheat codes.

The T23 USB is version 1, so even if it boots from that it will be slow.

Sorry. What is it I should type at the boot to extend the delay?

I created two bootable DVDs, with different programs. Both boot ok on my HP Stream. Neither boot on the T23. Perhaps the CD-ROM on the T23 can't handle DVDs?

Trying to boot from USB or CD just so I can do an install on the hard disk.

I will try acpi=off also.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

if it is a cd rom, then it wants a cd. I am not sure what exactly your machine has, but that is something to look into.

you can try a plop boot manager cd as well. that will allow you to boot a usb 1.1 device, which is what I do on my ancient sony laptop (actually I use a boot 3.5 inch floppy disk).

its a handy boot manager utility that can do all sorts of things like boot usb on hardware that doesn't support it.

the zip file contains floppy disk images and cd images. just burn the iso to a CD, boot the cd, and then you can boot a usb device. very handy.

I don't usually boot any of the many distros I test from USB; I have found it to be too flaky.

In the interest of helping the OP, I created a bootable USB with antiX-16-b2.1 on it. My T23 booted from it with no problem.

The OP shouldn't need to use PLOP; if contemplating burning a CD, (s)he would do better to burn antiX to it. The problem is more likely to be an incompatibility between the particular USB drive used, the T23, and antiX. Change any one of the three, and it may well boot. That's why I gave up on testing distros using USB; you can end up wasting a lot of time.

With that in mind, and the fact that a USB 1 boot will not be significantly faster than a CD, I reiterate the advice to try it from a CD.

I booted with Plop boot manager on a CD and AntiX on USB, but same problem -- can't find linuxfs.

I put AntiX ISO on a CD, that booted to the ISOLinux copyright line, did a lot of hard disk IOs and then nothing.

Do I need a non-PAE distro? As a Pentium III-M, it is definitely non-PAE.

You can extend the delay with"try=20" (or any number of seconds you want).

If that doesn't work then make sure you use the"failsafe" boot option or the"load=all" and"from=all" options. If that still fails, can you take a picture of the screen with the full error message and post it here?
