I set conky to the right side and I find it plenty visable.

xbattbar is kind of interesting. I've never tried it but its very unobtrusive. I think I'll run it a while and see how it does.

in blackbox there is not a system tray. i install xbattbar but i have this error:

I still think conky is best with no task bar. But then. I can be a little stubborn myself at times,
You reminded to go ahead and install batti from tar.gz because of this thread using my old instructional posts in that thread I posted. Thanks for that. __{{emoticon}}__

xbattbar -c
will use acpi to read the battery status. by default it uses apm, which even most older computers still in use no longer support.
