I have never had any problems with banshee before now, I just need to know if anyone has got it working on M8 Full? It will start, but when I play a song it just quits. Is it because I lack GNOME? Attached is the output when starting banshee using a terminal, but I can't make sense of it.

A few gnome based apps seem to have got broken in the latest upgrades from Testing repo.

You could try

apt-get install --reinstall banshee/stable

On my box, apt-get install banshee does this (sid)

Code: Select all

 apt-get install banshee

Now that I look at it, you're right- not worth it. Is there anything else equivalent to banshee that I could try? Maybe something like Win Amp? I have been using it ever since I started using linux and just can't quite let it go.

Have you tried xmms? it comes as default, at least in full antix. I'm pretty happy with it. Also, there's xfmedia and alsaplayer.

I hope this helps

WOW!!!! I have never used xmms before. Banshee is to iTunes what xmms is to WinAmp. I have never liked iTunes as a program, but as an interface it was alright, banshee made it simple and nice which is why I have used it since I started using linux. I have used WinAmp since it was in beta (10 years ago?) and always liked it. You now have me hooked. Now to get it integrated with conky....

Edit: the maXMMS skin looks oddly familiar...

XMMS will use any winamp skin. So if you have a preference just download it and unpack to /home/username/.xmms/Skins. Once it's there open xmms, click on the o and select the skin.

Actually I think xmms works with any .wsz winamp skin. Unless I'm unaware of something it doesn't work with the newer .wal winamp skins. You don't need to unpack them either. You can drop any .zip, .tar.gz, or .wsz skin into /home/user/.xmms/skins.
