hey all,

i'm posting archbang here because i recently discovered this baby and thought it might be interesting for some other people here...

it's based on arch which is a fast, advanced and sleek distro + openbox and it's great IMHO. however some things could've been easier but that's not a major problem (again) IMHO.
it's kinda like antix but then based on arch...

indeed, IMHO really easy to install and it's good to be able te test it with a live cd to see wether"the arch way" is the right way for you.

Yes it has an installer that's like arch's native installer...text based and asks you questions then drops you into various config files for you to verify and correct if needed. It works very well and after install you got a nice Arch install that's ready for you to customize

I think Archbang is a good live distro, but at least on my machine I had trouble installing it to my hard drive. Nonetheless, I think it's a very promising project. It could end up being a real rival for AntiX (the next version is due out in June).

Togheter with crunchbang...but the first is Arch, not for beginners and the second is too much austere, whenever well
configured by default, except everything is black and grey like Archbang,IMHO depressive and wasting for
eyes.In antix you have more fun 'by default',what do the geeks like?

I've had trouble installing the last two releases of Archbang to my hard drive, which is why I haven't persevered with it recently (and yes, I have mentioned this on their forum).

As for the depressing black and grey theme though, there's a simple answer - install the fvwm-crystal desktop window manager, based on fvwm, using the command"Pacman -S fvwm-crystal". It's still dark but quite beautiful and works very well with ArchBang.

I've been playing with Archbang in Virtualbox & converted the gtk logout & fluxbox menus to run on it

It's fast but made me realise just how much configuration is done for you in Debian. It is good for learning new things - such as

(supports up to 128 partitions & requires GRUB2).

The old GRUB can in the meantime also

and 128 partitions is also not so very __{{emoticon}}__
