Which Debian repos are you using for this one Roky? As long as the system does not knock out networking, there are few issues that cannot be overcome, if you are serious enough about fixing them.

Then again, antiX 8.5 is a bit old in the tooth! Do you work much with antiX core? That's a great place to start. I have two setups that I've been running for quite a while now; both are set to Sid repos. I use smxi to help me through the occasional rough waters, but even rough waters don't happen very often, maybe 2-3 times per Debian version, if that.

I also have an antiX 12.0 system, and I used Base to build it to my own specs, and I have two more antiX 12.0 systems upstairs, both old Dell models (a 3000 desktop and a D610 laptop). Both were getting old in the tooth and really slow. They are not race horses with antiX 12.0, but they do work fine and are acceptable performers.

I am near the end of my dist-upgrade process. I hope new udev and my 3.4.4 antix kernel don't have hissy fits on reboot. I have a backup 3.4.1 antix kernel in grub if need be though.
Then just smxi another kernel as backup f need be.

I hope new udev and my 3.4.4 antix kernel don't have hissy fits on reboot. I have a backup 3.4.1 antix kernel in grub if need be though.
Udev upgrade killed 3.4.4 antix kernel. So smxi after making sure 3.4.1 antix i486 booted ok. Installed Debians 3.2 i486 non pae kernel since this eeepc 701SD maxes out at 2 gig of ram anyways and runs a single core celeron processor. Uninstalled 3.4.4 also while in smxi also.

Due to changes made to the latest udev (175-5) in Debian Sid, users should upgrade kernel and headers to linux-image-3.5.0-antix.2-486-smp otherwise you will not be able to boot. At the moment those using the default Debian Testing repository are not affected, but users should still upgrade the kernel and its headers.
But you cant blame this pig headed biker for trying. Breaking things is how I learn things.

roky - have you tried the latest antiX kernel?

There is also an antiX 3.6.2 kernel around if you want to try it.

Temporarily add the dev rep to antiX source list (just add the word dev) and then
apt-get update
apt-get install linux-image-3.6.2-antix.1-486-smp linux-headers-3.6.2-antix.1-486-smp

I will delete the antix 3.4.1 kernel and headers next and keep the debian 3.2 kernel as a backup for 3.6.2 kernel. Already commented out antix-dev repo also after kernel booted up ok to a Desktop.

If you keep the antiX repos, you might come across issues with apt sources.list as latest versions use sources.d folder. Other issues might crop up as well.
It may be best to comment it out for now, unless you want to be a guinnea pig __{{emoticon}}__
