Hello. I installed antix base 8.0 on my laptop since I want to run xfce on it. Here's what I have so far:

1. repos set to stable and updated
2. renewed mepis key
3. installed aqualung, gnomebaker, streamtuner
4. installed gdm, geany
5. installed xfce 4.6 and asunder using testing repos
6. installed quite a few xfce plugins from testing
7. removed a few apps: links2, htop, and leafpad

I see this as basically the same as my openbox system, but with xfce instead. The app list will look almost the same.

You will find a lot of the"control center" items become unused due to xfce taking control of this funtionality.

claws for email and
xpn for newsfeeds

Yeah, I was just thinking about that. I'll definitely need to redesign it. I'm going to look into mandriva's and get some layout ideas; I have a feeling I'll need a completely different approach from the one I presented in antix.

1. Replaced gdm with slim
2. New control center - It's mostly complete, just need to decide on the final layout of a couple of tabs
3. Installed xfce screenshooter and xsane
4. Updated except for mepis tools - having a hard time connecting
5. Having issues with firestarter - keeps telling me about a config problem
6. Somehow gimp got installed - probably with xsane
7. Have a nice theme. May replace icon set
8. Need to customize conky
9. Need to customize slim

You can probably remove gimp with an
apt-get remove --purge gimp

If you want to make the iso as small as possible, you may want to remove all the files/folders in /usr/share/docs

You can also remove the files in new-squashfs/var/lib/apt/lists

@oub12, I think it's not the badest idea to have a look to Wolvix:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false. This is a fork of slackware 12.2 and the smartest xfce-customizing I've seen.

I will be downloading Antix 8.2 in the future. Right now I am tinkering with Mepis 8.0 and Mint 6.0 (XFCE interface). I like being able to create icons in XFCE. They are called"launchers". I really believe that Antix with the XFCE interface would/should really rock!

It looks like someone at mepislovers is creating a soon to be official xfce mepis respin. I'd look for it there.

If you're interested, you can create quick launch taskbar icons in icewm. See this post:

I believe that distro is in 64 bit. (Just for the record)
