HP Printers and LibreOffice have both been referred to earlier in thread.
To recap
  • The symptoms prevented printing from all apps not just LibreOffice
  • When the intermittent symptoms were present, only the antiX system was affected. Every other non Linux system in the household was able to print successfully
Reviewing the events to reply to the two most recent posts identified one aspect that is not mentioned in previous posts. The antiX-Live USB and the antiX that replaced XP (on the laptop that was disposed of) was 32bit. 64bit was used on the laptop that had the problems.
