i'm a musician, and have a separate, dedicated box for recording (p3, 500m, 400m ram). i used to have ubuntu 8.04.1 w/ an rt-kernel, but recently switched it to 64studio (Debian Lenny).
my question is this: can you use the 64studio repo in antiX? i really love antiX, and would rather run that for my recording box than plain Debian/64studio. and yeah, i've heard you can get an rt-kernel from Mepis repo (or kernel.org), but i've also read about lots of recording problems with newer rt-kernels.
so what do you think? is a 64studio/antiX combo-meal possible?

I am not familiar with 64studio but if it will run on Debian then there should be no issue with it on antiX. Where do you get 64studio, I don't see it in the repos?

Being a long time Musician myself, i have often tried using Linux distros for a studio setup. It's always led to more or less disappointment though, unfortunately. Not saying that it isn't getting there, because it most certainly is, and i read somewhere (a year or two ago) that the developer of"Ardour" uses Zenwalk as his platform, and it has to be said that Ardour (along with many other music apps, Rosegarden etc) is a very good piece of software.
But i personally have never had anything but hassle (either immediately or a little while after installation) with every music distro i've tried. Having said that, i've never tried Studio64 so i thank you for the info and i'll certainly check it out, especially as it's Debian based.
I'd love to see a lightweight distro like antiX as a base for a music studio. Until then, i'll stick with VST32 (10 years old, and still gives me pretty much everything i need) and Reason.
I'd love to hear about your experiences with Studio64 if you get the time? Do you use it on a daily basis? How does it compare to an XP based setup in your opinion? What do you use your studio for? I use mine mainly for Vocals/Guitar, along with some Midi/VSTi stuff.
