Well not quite!
But now I have your attention I'll tell you what is for supper.
An xdelta patch is available for download for those that would like to experiment with some scripts now included in antiX. (Courtesy of UnicornRider). The scripts are ideally used in livecd mode and include cheatcodes nogui, lean, mean and kbd=ch (and others) to speed up and lighten a livecd boot as well as a script that automatically replaces the slim login screen box when antiX is installed to hard drive.
* nogui = slim login manager is disabled.
* lean = cupsd, lighttpd, rsync, powersaved and mpd are disabled at boot.
* mean = disables network ie you will have to manually configure net connection via Admin/Tools>Mepis Admin>Network
* kbd=ch = sets a Swiss-German keyboard
patch_rc2-rc3.delta and md5sums available from:

You will need the antiX-M7-rc2.iso and can patch it using xdelta (see instructions in the MepisLovers wiki)

Got it. Scripts ok. Didn't try the Swiss-German Keyboard, though.

Was boot up time reduced when using the scripts in livecd mode? It should have been. Also apps should have opened quicker with the cheatcodes especially abiword, iceweasel.
In my tests, with 128MB RAM, normal boot >abiword opens in 10secs
lean and mean cheats>abiword opens in 4 secs.
Also.
Do you think antiXrc2/rc3 is ready for release as a final? I think it is.
I'll post this in another thread and see what the response is.

Yes, boot time is some faster. Apps load noticeably faster. Is AntiX ready for final? My vote = emphatically yes! As stated in an earlier post, I see no place, at this point, for appreciable improvement. You have accomplished, as I understand it, what you set out to do. συγχαρητήρια (sp?)

Actually, there should also be a couple of other layouts available - please refer tomoron wrote: Didn't try the Swiss-German Keyboard, though.

In addition to that, I'd like to point out a"cheat code" not mentioned in the original post: adding eth0 will allow the"booting user" to enter address and gateway for one interface at boot time, thus starting the session with one"fixed" network interface up (with the netservers provided by opendns.org as default ...).

Too late for the RC 3 but maybe soon enough for the final, two more proposals from my side:
- a revision of the classic XDiskUsage, debugged and updated for AntiX / Fluxbox;
- a shell script (plus graphical interface) to"substitute" Mepis' APT notifier applet.
Code(s) and guidance are available from

In particular for users accessing a given Samba share on a regular basis, the script I'm currently working on might be of interest:
