Hi all, as some of you might recall my attempts at getting wireless with Antix on my ancient Thinkpad X31 were futile. I enjoy using Antix so much I recently purchased a Dell D630 on clist and installed Antix on it. Everything works flawlessly, including the wireless! The best way to get to know a Linux distro is by tinkering with it. I was able to put Crunchbang on the X31 and it works with wireless, so all was not lost with that machine.

DELL D630's come with one of two wireless cards; Intel or Broadcomm.
Intel cards work OOTB with Linux, Broadcomm are problematic, and there are a number of chips on them that may or may not be supported. It's often easiest to buy a used Intel card from eBay for very little than try to get a Broadcomm one working.
A D630 with antiX must fly; as long as you have 2GB of RAM they are pretty fast with a KDE distro!

Look at my signature. My old JUNKBOX was made from parts of old computers, working together under the harmonyof antiX.

Thanks for the replies. Special thanks to runwiththedolphin for his very informative and helpful videos on youtube regarding antix. As a linux user I fall right between beginner and intermediate. I've distro hopped for many years but have finally settled on a few distros that seem to work for me on most of my machines. Point linux, Puppy, Crunchbang, and of course Antix!

I also have a D620 and antiX 13.2 loaded flawlessly on it. And, yes, it does fly compared to the MS windows that was on it before.

I know it has been a couple of months now. But I got to thinking about the Thinkpad X31. Did you ever send a inxi -F printout on this forum? What brand wireless card/module is it using? I would try the antiX 13.1 LiveCD to see about the wireless. IMHO it still could work with antix.davea4570 wrote:Hi all, as some of you might recall my attempts at getting wireless with Antix on my ancient Thinkpad X31 were futile.
