It is relatively easy, though obviously great care should be taken whenever manipulating files in this way. I took the precaution of backing everything up beforehand.
Also, it should be noted that this was all done from running a live cd, it should never be attempted while using the system you are attempting to modify.

I tried installing antiX onto a 2gb flash about a week ago, and although it installed OK, & it managed to boot other OS's on the laptop HD, it didn't boot the USB install at all??
Going to give it another try soon, after having looked at some of the links and threads that are offered here.
