antiX installs to a SD card in a CF adapter just as to
a CF card. No problems evident in the installation.

When attempting to boot from the SD in the adapter,
the BIOS comes to this.
"Verifying DMI Pool Data .............."

According to various discussions on the Web, the
BIOS is failing to recognize the storage device.
A BIOS problem rather than an anitX problem.
Nevertheless, booting antiX from such adapter
would be useful. Any ideas?

I'm progressing. Thanks! ... Peter E.

The adapter here has 40 pins rather than 44.
The connector on the IDE ribbon in the desktop machine
connects directly. Power is supplied through a connector
as with a floppy drive.

I can try a 4 GB SD card in the adapter. Shouldn't be different
but something peculiar is involved.

Thanks, ... Peter E.

Next step. When sd card is inserted. Does bios see it as a hard drive. I ask all of this because I used to use a 8 gig micro drive like out of a mp3 player in a card adapter like I showed in my laptop.

My laptop would then see the micro drive in my bios. Showing blocks and name of drive and everything.
This was on a Amrel RT 786 EX Military Toughbook.

By the way. Your link just points to a list of stuff. Not a certain item.

Yes, the BIOS identifies the device. I tried"auto"
access and LBA. Neither allowed booting.

That was in my quote of your previous reply.
The wiki didn't preserve your original URI.
The adapter I have is identical in appearance to this.

GRUB was attempting to boot from hd2. When the adapter
is the only storage in a machine it will be hd0.
In grub.cfg I replaced all occurances of"hd2" with"hd0"
and"ahci2" with"ahci0". Booting still failed.

Then using the desktop machine which installed antiX, I
reinstalled GRUB with this.
# grub-install --boot-directory=/media/peter/ANTIX/boot /dev/sdc

Then attempting to boot antiX from the CF-SD still in the machine,
the BIOS stopped with this message.

Verifying DMI Pool Data ..............
Read Error

An old Pentium S machine produced the GRUB menu and allowed
me to select the default entry. Not enough memory to
boot antiX.

With the CF-SD adapter in the Tatung TWN-5213 tablet, powering
up gave a long delay and then this message.

No boot device present. Halting.

Appears that this CF-SD adapter is non-conformant to standards.
Further investigation requires a protocol analyzer between the
ATA adapter in the computer and the CF-SD adapter.
I'm not interested to invest that effort at present. Better to
simply use a 4 or 8 GB CF card. Or possibly try a different CF-SD
adapter.

Thanks for the interest and help, ... Peter E.
