I kinda ran into this where a older kernel worked better than a new one . I just play with /etc/apt/sources.list to keep it current on my EEEPC 900.

I have downloaded & burned antix7.5 but having trouble loading. It seems to load ok has some errors loading (everything does on this old IBM). It stays in command line for usr & password. Not sure what to use tried"demo" &"demo" , but that seemed to put me in bash as I get a @demo$ line?
So tell me what did I do wrong?
Oh by the way the light for my pcmcia wireless says it has power so the system did find it. Now if I could just get into the system.
Apparently not learning much about lenux

demo without the"" for user and password.
You could try root
ie root and password = root.

Oh just noticed. Once you have logged in as demo, I see it does do that, then type
startx

Maybe my iso is bad? I will try another download.
Have tried 8 & 8.2 neither 1 will load at all. Just too many error on this old laptop.
Too contrary to give up

When you get to:
demo@mepis1:~$
try this:
su
(root pword)
/etc/init.d/slim stop
/etc/init.d/slim start
and see if that gets you to desktop

Make sure you burn at slow speed, x4 and choose DAO-mode (disk-at-once) and use cdr not cdrw.

OK well 7.5 loaded fine once i got a decent burn. It powered up my pcmcia card before it was completely loaded. Configured wlan interface & boom all was fine. System seems to be running fine. Thank you to alll who helped me get this old laptop up & going. Once I have learned how to use the system better I will post my progress.
Again thank you all.
