I have just cut an Antix M11 live CD, and it hangs as soon as it starts booting off the CD with the following:

Missing parameter in configuration file. Keyword: APPEND
gfxboot:
Could not detect available memory size
boot:

I know the CD is OK because Antix loads fine from it on a T20 I have, so must be something up with the 600 and Antix (the reason I say with Antix M11 specifically is because I've already installed Zenwalk on this 600 fine, but gave up on it because I couldn't get the modem to work with Zenwalk). The 600 has 128mb of memory and a 40Gb drive fitted.

Hi Linux_newbie_no1. I gave a answer at LQ in your other thread about maybe cdrw vs cdw on thinkpad 600.

Hopefully dewi9 or Anticapitalista will weigh in on this thread also.

hey, i once had that error too i think (can't remember what it said exactly), i don't know what it is and i don't know why but when i just pressed enter it booted!
so you could try that but maybe it was something different like what rokytnji said or you could indeed need the 486 version as anticapitalista said.

good luck!

I recently was trying to install on an old Thinkpad 600X and had the same thing
happening.

At the boot: prompt I hit <tab>
That gave me a list of the boot targets.

I typed in one of the boot targets and hit <enter>.

I did not have to try them all before finding one that
would boot and allowed me to install.

Unfortunately, my English is not enough ...
2. Setting the frame buffer. First of all, I wanted to activate the framebuffer on the laptop because I have planned for later manage a pure console system with Debian. To find out what resolutions the framebuffer device supports, you can boot into the grub by pressing 'c' switch to command mode and identify the command vbeinfo this information.

The Thinkpad 600 was equipped with a graphics chipset from Neomagic. For this particular model, there is a framebuffer driver named neofb. So this will be loaded automatically at boot time, you have the file /etc/modprobe.d/fbdev-blacklist.conf first one to comment on the subject on the blacklist neofb driver.

To obtain a resolution of 1024 × 768 pixels with 16 bit color depth, the file /etc/default/grub be extended with the following lines.

Code: Select all

GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768x16
 GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD=keep
