Howdie from an Arch Linux user, web designer and distro taster!
antiX-15 Killah confirms the goodness I've foreseen in a

last winter.
...whith a few quite unfriendly glinches for the newcomer, eeh!
Arriving on antiX-15 Killah P Live on an super errrr fast Atom Z520 (slowest cpu in 2010 with clumsy intel gma500 graphics). That the OS supports wonderfully yeah!
First step, check the home page for news, doc and community.
Eeeh! Home Page takes over a minute to start loading. « Hou-da! Browsing for info and support gonna take forever... ». Okay, later got the news for the freeforum issue that is getting better. Note that

fofo itself loads instantly.
After that wait, home page loaded but nowhere to read or navigate on a 1366*768 screen (not even a 1024*600) : eeeeh, what a design! If that nicky-smally text is supposed to be read above everything else, then make it readable please! or put it away.
Login page they say, ha... Mama where's the first login field?
Finaly found where are the forums hidden below the insightfull headers, clicked on a first interesting subject and Seaweasel already asks « Do you really wanna leave this page ? » eeeh, why? Clic « No », browser re-asks, « No ! » and like this all the time until I go to another, friendlier place. Then while I'm writing on another domain, browser takes me back to antix fofo « Do you really want ... » hou-daaa! Ooookay I know, should install some ad-filter add-on, but I'm just testing a live (and many do not use these, 90% I've read somewhere). On AntiX Live, Seaweasel crashed twice in minutes. Let me look a bit at a couple of the nice distro's hand-made scripts (like 'screenshot' __{{emoticon}}__
Out of curiosity, installed Lightbeam and opened antix home page (live user PoV) just once: tracked by that number of third partiy entities? on a single page? I know live isn't cheap, but hey, still: ads != tracking me and I haven't seen a p2p site with as many trackers / ads / talking ads (with Flashblock ON) than AntiX's home page.
Brilliant devs and sysadmins aren't best at communication, confirmed __{{emoticon}}__
Yeah I'll keep away from the forum unless there's some tool like

====================================
? If not I'll put µblock, BlueHell Firewall, disconnect and more under some real test __{{emoticon}}__ But I like the way this distro *runs* great. BTW have been seeding the distro for a few days, 40 GB so far.

To see firsthand what you described, I temporarily disabled my browser extensions...
Hell no, I would not be able to tolerate that (slow loading, visual noise, embedded 3rd party snoops).
Thanks for the eye-opener. I had no idea how sleazy the freeforums"free" platform has become.
I couldn't replicate that wierd, top-center, box with scrollbars shown in your screenshot, though.
In any event, the free hosted platform is"turnkey"; doesn't provide forum admin much opportunity to apply customizations.

2. some add loading in an frame I think
3. Why would they? eeeh
Tried to come back to the forum with Palemoon and Gaesenring's Hostsblock loaded on an Arch litle box and believe me: took me over an hour to answer *this* post. 1/20 writing, 10/20 fightin the « Do you really wanna leave this page ? » JS pop-up forcibly reopening this tab, and rest of the time to read Pentadactyl integration notes with NoScript that do not integrate on the version installed. Totaly messed up; first site for which I *have to* use Noscript since over ten years ago.
1. Smart of you skidou. As for my eyes and ears, forum promptly closed them (ears too since ads speak...) at least"free"forums makes visible what other disguise behind good looking smiles and rhetoric, like Google. Both say"free" since our time and bandwith we give it to them freely, ha ha haaa.skidou wrote:1. To see firsthand what you described, I temporarily disabled my browser extensions...

I have a stick loaded with it and boot parameters set to auto load FR. We'll see what it does when I start it on the PCs they have at a facility that repair all kinds of (nice) throwed stuff nearby I'm voluntering in.fatmac wrote:Stick with it, you'll soon be installing it instead of that other one. __{{emoticon}}__

@Shay I'm so glad it works for you. But it's enough for third-parties share-holders if 50% of AntiX forum visitors do not have µBlock/APB/Disconnect/BlueHell.
Privacy talking, Freeforum connects to more third-parties than the top five third parties sharing web sites that were used as a test case for LightBeam development. The five taken together. Man, that's what I call open }-) and the test was done with a fully loaded OS-level hostsblock, remember?
117 third-parties, I took the time to get the list:

Today you block hostname ads.nastyads.com, tomorrow you'll be back, adding 2345hj.nastyads.com and oiud.nastyads.cc and...
Using RequestPolicy or ublock or policeman instead, you start from a"default deny" position and,
when creating permissive rules, you can create wildcarded rules like *.cc or *.nastyads.com
cgstatic.com
Do you know who (what) that site is?
It serves as CDN for freeforums.org css images/assets.
FYI, that's the only permissive 3rd pary allowance (permissive rule) needed when visiting *.freeforums.org forums.
For the sake of avoiding need to create temporary rules so that I can view screenshots embedded into posts, I've also added rules to allow freeforums pages to load assets from:
imgur.com
photobucket.com
imageshack.us
With HOSTS file blocking, you're inviting the prospect of continually chasing your tail.the test was done with a fully loaded OS-level hostsblock

Sorry for posting late, error when I tried [1]
I raised the point for IMHO AntiX is praised and taken as one of the best collaborative, secure and privacy conscious OS, and one that allow forworking on small boxes. True, but when you open AntiX home page: the UI (font, layout), network connections and sharing data to half the world's third parties spiers makes the newcomer, well, frustrated. And doubtfull of the OS power and connection capabilities. At more or less degree, (s)he will associate AntiX with all the previous (just like for some nice guy... with a nasty odour)
Also What when we let the Live version to non tech people to try it by themself?
Actualy

by Gaenserich is an script that auto build a / etc/hosts(.block) and can be used with whether a super tiny pixel server, or DNS cacher. I have had a smooth and fast surfing on the few browsers and profiles I use ever since I installed it years ago. Without bothering to install, configure and update browser tools on each and every profiles used. Link to the script posted again as I miss-typed it somehow on my first post. Yeah CDN known (web projects manager here) Hope you don't mind taking casimages.com (a French sharing images, used in my posts to post the screens) in your white lists.

1.
2. People coming on the forum from their OS, a friend's or collegue's PC or smartphone (i should try from my Lumia for fun)
A solution could be to make use of this in a open, self-humour way. As it's an excellent forum for benchmarking Do Not Track Me tools (which I started to do incidently).

Yeah, I hear ya (about casimages.com). Day to day, while running RequestPolicy or ublock or policeman, it's often necessary to tweak the whitelist rules.
(but redirecting and serving"single-pixel images" only provides minimal benefit)
and nowadays, pixelserv alone (without stunnel, a cert, and adding that cert to browser's trusted list) is not an effective solution.
We need a proxy + localhost CDN solution which also scrapes/monitors 3p scripts hosted on jsdelivr.net, ajax.google.com, etc.

Posting from AntiX 15
/ etc/hosts* are unchanged (dated from June)
top shows no particular process (obviously if the tool is hosts based)
Iceweasel ate 100% CPU for about 10 min (unusable) then it's goes down to much lower at 2-9 %, then high CPU again. Showed the « Are you sure you wanna quit this page » a few since I started this post.
Lightbeam shows 139 third parties for antix.freeforum after I surfed 3 pages.
EDIT: System script launched, detail in my post below.
Fact is the UI (tiny blury fonts, layout) which was half of my feedback, was totally bypassed for now. I'll come back on this but let's wait and see if a concerned voice shows up. In the meantime, I'll present it at older non-tech active people, looking at their faces with interest __{{emoticon}}__
Also here are some of hostsblock's main features (taken from the link above, as I see you've been curious to get a look at this solution __{{emoticon}}__ )

@Skidoo what working solution do you use that has this, proxy + CDN included? With HOSTS file blocking, you're inviting the prospect of continually chasing your tail.
