Feedback has been given in plenty. Also I have tested a new kernel that boots OK without panic on my P3 IBM T23.
It will be incorporated into the newer testing release coming out real soon.
I am pretty sure thriftee has also booted the kernel I used and had good results on his gear also.

Yes, the stock Jessie boots, loads and runs. Its slow till I tweak down the memory requirements, and takes a lot of disk space, but its rock solid as I would expect a Debian distro to be...

I tested an antiX 14 base type system that anticapitalista pointed me to a week or two ago, and it was able to boot just fine, so I think roky's"patience" idea will work just fine. To a dev, I think a very important thing is that there are folks out there that would appreciate running the code they create. That makes it all worthwhile, IMO.

When next alpha will be released, I'll try it with some old laptops and provide feedback.
@thriftee, Did you boot new base system from CD-ROM or from USB pendrive? In my case, it will help if it is possible to use the same approach as with antix 13.2: booting via Plop + bootable_pendrive (created with YUMI).

To be honest, its sad to say, but my primary laptop is typically booted under windows vista.

I usually try USB flashdrive first just to avoid wasting cd's and dvd's, but when I have to use those, or when a program is good enough that I want a permanent copy, I burn those easily with imgburn.

Unfortunately imgburn doesn't support USB flashdrives or floppys, and so for those I have a sequence of free programs I use to create them as follows:
1. rufus - quick and automatically formats first, USB flash drives only, most distros including antiX work with it, and a few don't. I think debian and arch based distros are good, slackware maybe, but the oddballs are potential trouble, like frugalware
2. unetbootin - slower and need to do a quick format first or end up with a mess, its the"old reliable" for creating boot flashdrives
3. win32diskimager - just got it recently, open source, might be good.
4. rawwritewin - works well for creating plop linux boot floppys for old machines that can't boot from cd, dvd or USB flashdrive, load with plpbt.img. If its a floppy boot, this is the one that always works.

I've never had good luck creating them via cd, dvd or flashdrive with linux, and tired of making christmas tree ornaments and coasters, so I've just been using the one laptop loaded with windows to do the downloads and burn the iso's, regardless of my loathing of MS with its registry lunacy garbage and the resulting pathetic slowness of windows (now you know why I distrust things like systemd, which I see as the MS registry system's linux cousin, be it a fair comparison or not. I never had trouble back in the dos days because *I* was in control of *IT*, not the other way around).

BTW, on a nice note, none of my older machines, except the ones from the 80's and 90's (which I kept for business archive purposes) still have boot any MS operating systems, and when I meet a kid needing a PC here or there, that's where the get donated to, along with free support to keep them running, LOL. Sometimes it costs their parents a beer...

Ok, I suppose the mainframe might have some MS code on it someplace in and amongst all the old IBM stuff, but it lost a drive and I'm not reloading it, LOL, so its kinda like a bookshelf now.

I did. Worked just fine for me on usb 1.1 using my PLOP Floppy and PLOP CD.

On my oldies, the DVD drives themselves are the flakiest part, so if possible I try to go USB, but if it fails, I burn the DVD and try that.

I think I used USB because I don't see a disk with it on the stacker...

I am not really sure it was the USB 1.1 causing it. Anti is working on it, we know, so letsjust be patient and when he gets us something to try, we can go at it all the ways we typically might, and see what will work for us. I'm just happy we have someone on our side, because too make other distros don't seem to care if the code runs on older machines or not. I setup and give away old laptops tokids that don't have computers, but I don't have the bucks to buy them flashy new machines.

Nope. Actually. I read somewhere where PLOP has a option to force boot on usb 1.1 ports somewhere.
It is in the PLOP MENU OPTIONS.

Well, since I can't install from the dvd, Imight try messing with the plop usb setup.

My dvd drive is flaky a lot of the time.

PS: I got antiX 14.4 booting from plop floppy to usb flashdrive. For whatever reason, it worked this time,and I'm about 1/2 way through the install, so its LOOKING GOOD!
