Thanks for the link, I think I'll put it on one of my machines for a while.

. I impressed the local community computer teacher at the public center in town with this old laptop, install, look, and what it could do. I left my usual biker stuff off and let the geek flag fly.
The xmms skin came from the same spot as my previous post.

Fresh reinstall on eeepc 701. Painless except for editing grub from
root=/dev/sdb1 to
root=UUID=4bd96ac5-2c05-4274-949c-61927b9a2a6e

Installer saw live usb as sda and internal ssd as sdb so I was expecting a grub
error (I have lots of practise on these little buggers) __{{emoticon}}__

Broke this install on this IBM A22M tonight. Fixed it though. Slim would not log me in after I loaded up the hard drive to the max with movies and music. Only way was to boot into init. 3 and log in as root into root desktop.
Tried uninstalling slim and reinstalling. Same for lightdm and xdm. No change. Ran smxi with a dist-upgrade. No joy there either. Not untill I deleted about 2 gigs of movies and reinstalling slim was I allowed back into a Desktop as a user. Weird, huh? Decided to change over to icewm_rox desktop also and tweak theme a bit.

All of this started when I tried to play some home made recorded dvds on this dvdrom drive on this IBM.
It locked up and I did a Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to log out and boom. I was out for the count for a while.
I also found out this DVDROM drive hates Memorex DVD +R disks for movies. Store bought plays fine though.

My newer gear handles recorded dvds just fine. Like I said. Hardware weird.

@Roky, yes such old hardware has its quirks and my T23's DVDROM hates those Memorex discs too but didn't mind those Staples DVD's. My T42 didn't have that quirk

I have a T23 in pieces, which I plan to reassemble into a complete machine and then install AntiX on it and your experiences with that machine makes me want to use my T23 as a sort of netbook.
