Sorry, I suppose I misunderstood. I don't have to create a Windows XP Virtual Machine, but and Android one.

I created a virtual machine following this

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.android-x86.org/documents/virtualboxhowto"
linktext was:"http://www.android-x86.org/documents/virtualboxhowto"

But after I used cdw to burn android-x86-4.0-RC2-eeepc.iso and create the Live CD, I tried to start the machine and got the error message:

Code: Select all

Fatal: No bootable medium found! system halted

Maybe a corrupted iso download. Did you md5sum check it for integrity?

Code: Select all

$ md5sum android-x86-4.0-RC2-eeepc.iso

Web searching for this hash gives results like these:

I download the iso file here:

I don't see any hashes here to check it with.

In this page it's described as:
Android-x86 4.0-RC2 live and installation iso for ASUS Eee PC family

I hope it's compatible with my Toshiba Satellite 2450-s203. I don't find any iso specific for this model.

Finally it seems that it booted for me without click Live CD/DVD, but at Settings => Storage => Empty I clicked on “Choose a virtual CD/DVD file...” and opened the iso file. On boot menu I selected the VESA mode. Now I see a screen like the screenshot I attach, but I don't know how to interact with to start.

There are two messages at the top of VM window. The first one:
You have the Auto capture keyboard option turned on. This will cause the Virtual Machine to automatically capture the keyboard every time the VM window is activated and make it unavailable to other applications running on your host machine: when the keyboard is captured, all keystrokes (including system ones like Alt-Tab) will be directed to the VM.

You can press the host key at any time to uncapture the keyboard and mouse (if it is captured) and return them to normal operation. The currently assigned host key is shown on the status bar at the bottom of the Virtual Machine window, next to the ↓ icon. This icon, together with the mouse icon placed nearby, indicate the current keyboard and mouse capture state.

The host key is currently defined as Left.
The second one:
The Virtual Machine reports that the guest OS supports mouse pointer integration. This means that you do not need to capture the mouse pointer to be able to use it in your guest OS -- all mouse actions you perform when the mouse pointer is over the Virtual Machine's display are directly sent to the guest OS. If the mouse is currently captured, it will be automatically uncaptured.

The mouse icon on the status bar will look like to inform you that mouse pointer integration is supported by the guest OS and is currently turned on.
Note: Some applications may behave incorrectly in mouse pointer integration mode. You can always disable it for the current session (and enable it again) by selecting the corresponding action from the menu bar.
But, when mouse pointer integration is enabled, the cursor doesn't appear inside the Virtual Machine's display. When I disable it, the cursor appears only inside the Virtual Machine's display. Then I click there and a new message window opens:
You have clicked the mouse inside the Virtual Machine display or pressed the host key. This will cause the Virtual Machine to capture the host mouse pointer (only if the mouse pointer integration is not currently supported by the guest OS) and the keyboard, which will make them unavailable to other applications running on your host machine.

The host key is currently defined as Right Ctrl.
I click onto “Capture” and the cursor becomes blue, then I click onto “Start”, but nothing happens.

P.S. I got

linktext was:"Android I386 5.1"

(md5sum is seen when the i is left clicked on next to the link) to install on and run On one of My M&A companion intel atom n270 , 1 gig of ram, 30 gig ide zif drive netbooks. I used a conventional hard drive install. Everything worked on the way I did it.
I do not use virtual box at all on anything. I equate that to running a operating system using a condom. Just a personal feeling I have about VM.

I am sure others find it fulfilling. I am just wired different than others.

I gave a chance to android 5.1 within virtual box. First try got something like “Kernel Panic – no syncing”. Second try it booted, but it's a long time I only see a flashing white dash in a black display. I don't find all this promising.
