After the last reboot the background changed and some icons are now on the desktop. I don't remember changing anything, but I must have. And now when trying to change the background, it doesn't change.

How can I fix this?
Also, how can I change the menu so it's more organized?

For the menu:
Control Center>Edit icewm settings (or fluxbox)>Menu

then rearrange the categories or add new ones (for new programs). Follow the sytax. It's relatively straightforward.

Thanks, I'll spend some time with it and hopefully figure it out.

You must have set ROX-Pinboard on so it enables icons on the desktop and also sets the background in its own way.
To turn it off/on Menu>Desktop>Settings>ROX-Pinboard

If you set it to auto start up it was in Control Center>IceWM Settings, startup tab (comment back the line 'rox --pinboard=antix' for it to not start up by itself).

Download the file from

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false unzip and open antix FAQ. Go to the ROX section and you'll find how it works, including how it deals with the background (which can be set to alternate from time to time if you want).

IceWM and Fluxbox are window managers.
The desktop management is independent from them, being made by ROX 'on top' of either IceWM or Fluxbox.

It can be done in a similar way by PCManFM too.

Vinoman,

Perhaps it might be useful to checkout xfce or lxde. Those are friendlier to desktop icons and both run well with antiX.

How do I add lxde? What is the command?
I've used Xfce in the past.

I don't mind IceWM, it's just more convoluted to adjust things.

Check out the metainstaller. It used to be on the menu. I'm not on Antix right now so I can't check. Metainstaller will allow you to install many different programs in Antix. It will also give you several optoins for desktop environments, including lxde and xfce.

I opened it but it didn't bring up faq. What is ROX anyway?

Vinoman,
In Antix 8.5 rc3, to access the metainstaller:

Applications>Accessories>Metapackage-installer

it will prompt for password, and then the metainstaller gui will come up. Check the last option: Window manager. lxde, xfce and others are listed there.
