Hi, all is running quasi fine, nice distro antiX-M7.5 for oldtimer CompaqArmada E500,
BUT - huge problems with USB-Ethernet and mnetwork. External ADMtek 8511 adaptor
used due to its mobility between many PCs with fixed MAC adress checked by
broadband cable provider. Most other light distros, e.g. DSL, Puppy etc. works instant
without any config editing with same HW.
With antiX I started DHCP Internet over Terminal, su, lsusb, modprobe pegasus, ifup eth1,
dhclient eth1 etc etc- I can't save it for next session. Mnetwork always jump to the Static IP,
forced reboot AND - even if connected mnetwork says interface is not started showing grey fields.
? maybe USB hub is the problem ?, this NB has only 1 USB port.
Thanx for any idea howto, googled over 2 days - mostly obsolete advices.

I have a bunch of questions:
1) Did you try doing before ifup?
2) Can you plug the adapter into the main board instead of the hub and try it?
3) What is the output of these commands:
4) Have you tried ignoring mnetwork's messages and not rebooting? Set it up the way you want (make sure that Manual is checked and Ndiswrapper unchecked on the General tab), then make sure the Wireless tab has the right SSID and encryption info, then Stop and Start network on the General tab, finally go to the Interfaces tab, select eth1, check Start/restart on Apply, and click Apply? Mnetwork's warnings about"it MUST be restarted" are wrong most of the time in my experience...
5) Finally, PCMCIA wireless cards are dirt cheap and work fine...
1) Did you try doing
Code: Select all
ifdown eth1
2) Can you plug the adapter into the main board instead of the hub and try it?
3) What is the output of these commands:
Code: Select all
lsusb | grep Amtek
ifconfig eth1
5) Finally, PCMCIA wireless cards are dirt cheap and work fine...

There is also ceni and wicd that might get it working ok. Both in the Control Centre.
... and welcome to antiX, tosabo.

Thanx for quick answers,
I see this distro has also speed forum __{{emoticon}}__ ,
meanwhile I recognized only 2 lines are enough under root:
.....
modprobe pegasus
dhclient eth1
.....
and connection works OK, but I want to edit some
cfg file(s) to do it auto during/after boot rather than
write special new script.
Anyway the main problem - www connectivity I solved.
For my job - digging infos-data with streamed blues music
is this quite enough.
Thanx to all.

It looks like pegasus needs to load at boot to solve you poblem. Open as root /etc/modules and add it to the list, save and close. The next time you boot it will load automagically and you should be able to connect with wicd.

Hi,
thanx for reply, for more reasons than this ADMtek HW I repeat clean new OS install with
CONNECTED adaptor, then simply config it through ceni /sorry mnetwork/ - all done very
quick and simple.
Changing Fluxbox to RoyalRedStyle with nice red eye of HAL9000 picture I've got a very
nice, stable and quick OS for my old Armada E500 - pretty job from developer(s).
Now solving problem with failed ondeman governor /I thing ACPI to APM etc./
IMHO this thread about ADMtek can be closed.
Happy day
