out put from proc/alsa

Code: Select all

cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [I82801CAICH3 ]: ICH - Intel 82801CA-ICH3
                      Intel 82801CA-ICH3 with STAC9766,67 at irq 11
So only 1 quite common sound card which is set up by alsa nicely, sound appa start playing happily, I can't see anything wrong in mixer, only thing maybe that 'Mix' cannot be turned up. Have ativated abd turned up what I can see but no sound from Line out.
What am I missing here?

Dolphin sent me"
Try running this as root.

# alsactl init

you may or may not get any output from the command. try your sound after that."

It worked with me.

Didnt work. got some stuff saying hardware initilaized, seemed ok.
No sound.
cant see anything in mixer except that PCM Out is turned all the way down and cannot be changed. this is called pcm out path mute in alsamixergui, what it does I have no idea.

i got the pc with a drive with XP, can see if card works there, could be some hardware fault.
anyway the usb soundcard should let me use skype at least

Do you have and have you tried adjusting the volume of a setting called"aux" instead of"line out"?

Try using alsamixer at the commandline, Master/Headphone/Speaker/PCM should all be unmuted to have full sound output.
( 'm' will toggle each.)
Edit: Make sure you have a sound module loaded

Code: Select all

lsmod
- (if you have never had sound you may have to compile alsa sound modules on this machine.)

very unlikely that the kernel module is missing, if it was the mixer would not work.

will check aux

can post what the mixer shows.

I did try both alsamixergui and the cli.

Is there not a"select sound card" option in alsamixer, iirc F6 or something? I do not know if you have tried that?

alsactl init
Found hardware:"ICH""SigmaTel STAC9766,67""AC97a:83847666""0x10cf""0x1177"
Hardware is initialized using a generic method

I get only this choice in alsamixer

posting lsmod output below

Run the following, and post the results. leave out the spaces between / etc / var / dev when running the code it's a website posting issue.

post this log. / var/log/dmesg

run

Code: Select all

# / var/log/dmesg
and then run lsmod

For reference run, and post the results

Code: Select all

# ls -l / dev/snd

Mainly doing this will show the device nodes, and to see if the correct driver is getting loaded..
