Using ROX-icewm. Do we have something akin to the"trashcan" applet found in foreign OSes/desktop environments, a thing facilitating file undeletion (useful in case of remorse...) ? I remember having one such in an older Linux distro. Else how do you all suggest dealing in practice with the need to delete-but-not-quite-yet certain files or folders ?

Create a 'deleted' folder, link it to the desktop, write a script to copy the file to it when you want to 'delete' a file. __{{emoticon}}__

Edit: Or drag it over to it as a 'move file' operation.

Video how to for antiX

Forum post how to for antiX post31448.html

Both were produced for antiX-13 series. Because of the changes introduced in antiX-15/16, small tweaks may be needed but they will still be mainly OK.

Thank you all ! I'd I swear I searched the forum archive before asking,
not very efficiently as it turns out.

Those instructions, which SamK and Skidoo have pointed to,
even possibly actualized, might be made a"sticky" post or
otherwise made conspicuous for new users, methinks...

Regards...

but, is there a system wide trashcan, independent of file manager?
something that works even with mc and rm?

It's not like that. It's a convention... like"recent files" and"XDG_DIRS".
A program author may choose to write to recent-files.xbel file (or not).
A program author may choose to"mv to .Trash" any file(s) slated for deletion (or not).
