I'm testing the latest AntiX live cd on an old pc. When loading the F3 resolution options don't work, neither do cheat codes. I can change resolution and keyboard (UK) settings using control center. So far, so good. Played around with it and decided to install, and that went well. After reboot the resolution and keyboard settings are back to default, so I've reset them. I can't do 1600x1200 on a 15inch monitor with my old eyes. Maximum that I'm happy with is 1024x768. Played around a bit more trying things out, then switched off to enjoy New years eve. Switched back on again this morning, and it's back to 1600x1200 and US keymap. Arrrrgh!
None of the changes seem to stay, so I'll try a re-install and see what happens.
All the best, Richard.

Hello and welcome, Richard.
The resolution options (F3) only work without the noxorg cheatcode.
The best would be to know which graphics hardware you have. inxi -G in the terminal should show it.
You can fix your keyboard (the tool in CC is valid only for the session) by running, as root
The screen resolution can be fixed if you create an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. But that may depend on which video hardware you use. As an attempt, you can create one with the following contents:
and restart X (ctrl+alt+backspace).
If you decide to reinstall, just choose 'antiX extra options' in the CD menu and then choose the 'vesa' option (or if your card is a NVIDIA, choose 'nv' option and if it's an Intel card see if there's an 'intel' option too). Then choose 1024x768 with F3 and it will stick.
Also type kbd=gb in the boot line to get a UK keyboard layout (I think this one is supposed to stick too but I never tried since I have the option for me with the F2 key).

I have also changed a couple of settings, wallpaper and just 2 virtual screens. Seem I need to restart Icewm but I can't seem to find how to do it, or does that require a system reboot?
All the best, Richard.
Ok, so far so good. Installed and came up in1024x768 (used the AntiX extra options with vesa), seems to work ok. Fingers crossed.secipolla wrote:Hello and welcome, Richard.

You find a link to restart IceWM in the antiX menu > Exit... > Restart IceWM.
When you restart it sometimes you get some artifacts in the task bar in the notification area. You can also logout and login.
Run the 'inxi -G' or 'inxi -F' command so we know your video hardware and maybe there's a more functional driver for you than vesa.

So you don't have this?

As for the video driver you can install the radeon driver if it isn't installed yet (I think it is)
then replace 'vesa' for 'radeon' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (an easy way to do it is from the Control Center > System tab > Edit Config. Files).

I'll leave it for as is for now. It's working quite well.
Thanks for the help. No doubt I'll be back with more questions.
