I have uploaded 3 3.18.6 kernels to test.

The one I hope works best and will be used for release is linux-image-3.18.6-antix.3-486-smp

Let me know how they compare to the 3.18.1

I tried the 3.19 kernel and no go on my end. My system now will not boot up my antiX 13.2 Testing partition that I've spent a few hours creating. I guess I'm going to have to do a re-install. __{{emoticon}}__

system specs:

Code: Select all

           Card-2: Broadcom Device 43b1
           IF: N/A state: N/A speed: N/A duplex: N/A mac: N/A
I wanted to see if I could get the Broadcom wireless working with a newer kernel; maybe 3.17, 3.18.1, or 3.18.6?

20150303-01 edit: I don't think it was the kernel. I re-installed antix 13-2 Testing again. I performed a dist-upgrade, rebooted, and experienced the same issue; boot sequence hangs. I did note that during reboot after the dist-upgrade that reboot took a very long time. I'm going to open a new thread in a different forum.

unless you removed it the old kernel still should be there. you should be able to just edit the grub boot entry to point toward the old kernel.

If I were only using antiX that might be a solution. However, I'm dual booting with CrunchBang Linux, with CrunchBang being the main distro. In other words, grub for CrunchBang is on the MBR and grub for antiX is in the antiX root partition.

so are you chain-loading to the antix root grub or booting antix directly from crunchbang's grub? If you are chainloading to antiX's grub, this should be easy, as you can edit the /boot/grub/menu.lst file on the antix partition from crunchbang, and then reboot.

Installed and booting and working OK on my Emachine

The 3.15.2 kernel would error out till searching for btfrs file system.
Then finish booting OK. So keeping it as backup till I test further.
Sound, Video, wireless card in pcie desktop slot work just fine.

Looks good Anti.

I've seen that in CrunchBang Linux as well. Some day I need to make time to learn how to compile my own kernel to remove such nonsense. I don't use btfrs, so why do I need a kernel checking for it?

Another thing I recently learned that irritates me. Why is it that installing xserver-xorg-video-all requires all of the other video related packages; e.g. xserver-xorg-video-s3, xserver-xorg-video-trident, etc.? You can't remove the individual video packages that you don't need because xserver-xorg-video-all depends on all of them.
