In the antiX Testing repos, the latest kernel is now available - including libre for those that want it.

Won't start on my Athlon XP; haven't tried the Pentium II but it seems unlikely given the Athlon will run 3.12.6 and 3.12.3 is the latest I've gotten to start on the PII.

Hmm. Tried installing 3.14.3 kernel from command line; got a suggested package linux-firmware-image-3.14.3-antix.1-486-smp -- but trying to install that, gives"no such package" type failure.

Code: Select all

# apt-get install linux-firmware-image-3.14.3-antix.1-486-smp
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package linux-firmware-image-3.14.3-antix.1-486-smp is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'linux-firmware-image-3.14.3-antix.1-486-smp' has no installation candidate
This might be related to why it won't boot on the Athlon (maybe even on the Pentium II); what repo would have this linux-firmware-image package?

I got the notation of the"suggested file" while installing the linux-image-3.14.3-antix.1-486-smp. The suggested file most certainly was linux-firmware-image-3.14.3-antix.1-486-smp...

Edit: BTW, I didn't download the linux-headers for 3.14.3 on my Core2Quad machine, and it runs fine with that kernel. I understood the *headers* file was only needed in order to compile kernel modules.

Just went ahead and downloaded 3.14.3 kernel and got a weird message about"missing firmware" for my eth0 driver r8169. Yet

I'm using the wireless on this MSI laptop, so it isn't a major thing.

OOPS: I forgot to change kernels.

IBM A22m has XP on it and is for sale. This is my IBM T23 that would not boot 3.14 kernels made by Anti.
So I tried a different route.

Okay, finally got a chance to test the 3.4.3-dreamlinux-liquorix terminal on my PII laptop. No go; first, gdebi appended .new to the initrd.img-3.14.3-dreamlinux-liquorix, which caued a couple cases of"file not found", then once I got that figured out and actually got the boot to start, I got an error (something like"initramfs decompression failed") that led to a kernel panic almos timmediately

The 3.14.3-dreamlinux-liquorix kernel works on my Dell Latitude D620. I also tried installing the 2 antiX versions and they booted up fine on it as well.

On my Dell Inspiron 8100 neither 3.14.3 antix or gnu was able to get through a boot cycle, and all hung with a message on the display saying they were setting the rtc. If you want details, I could run it again and go grab log files from it, if you tell me what you'd like to see.
