The last issue (for the moment) is sort of solved but I was hoping someone could come up with an explanation. I use Nvidia proprietary drivers and install them via smxi's ?fglrx? script. This has never failed me until I tried it with antix -it just kept failing everytime. I worked around it by killing slim or gdm/X or whatever antiX uses and manually running the driver installer. Just wonder if anyone knows WHY my regular smxi method kept failing.
Thank you SO much for your patience with my forum spam. I really AM loving antiX!

In antiX running smxi is designed to be used without X running
The following message is generated when running the command sudo smxi in a terminal while X is running:

Your X/Desktop (kde/gnome/xfce etc..) must be shutdown to run this script.

Since you are currently in X, you will need to run smxi again after
X has shutdown, and you have logged back in. You will lose any work
you have not saved on your running desktop.

1 - shutdown-your-desktop Kill X now. Remember, you will need to log back in,
and start smxi again.
2 - quit-script Quit smxi, don't shut down the current X session or desktop.

Would you like to shutdown your X/Desktop now?

2) quit-script

Indeed. And I've had that issue crop up before without causing much pain. This time I recieved no such helpful explanation/workaround. Luckilily I remember my days before smci and was able tyo kill off the DE/WM and manually install the driver.
Thanks for your time!
